This week’s meeting was hosted by Lindsay Whitaker, General Manager of the YMCA, Woodstock Branch and catered by John Stephen, owner of East Side Mario’s.

A thank you to Rose for helping with attendance this week and Ron for greeting our members and guests.

President Melissa opened the meeting with an attention getting two-finger whistle, as there was no bell to call the meeting to order, followed with  O’ Canada, a toast to Queen and Country (sans drinks) and Invocation by Graham H.

Guests in attendance included our exchange student, David, from Brazil, Frances’s daughter, Allie and Lindsay Whitaker of the Y.

Announcements

50/50: Ted handled the 50/50 draw with our exchange student David drawing Olga’s ticket. Olga pulled the ten of hearts earning her $10. Congratulations Olga!

Rotary Dues:
A reminder that membership fees are now due and that cheques or cash can be given to Don F.

Dragon Boat:
There are still three more dates to be filled in September, please see Dave’s recent email or visit the website to volunteer

GSE Team:
A GSE Team will be in our cluster area near the end of September and early October and President Melissa is looking for an interested member to act as a coordinator for setting up a day of activity for the team.

Sergeant at Arms: Richard Holmes
Happy Bucks: Bruce B announced the groundbreaking for the new Family & Children Services building will take place this Wednesday; Vanessa P will be driving a “hot, new (colour yet to be determined)” automobile shortly; Paul B  has a new member of the family…a Beagle puppy adopted from the Stratford SPCA; Nelia H dropped in a buck on behalf or her children, who are just “thrilled” that school is starting soon; Phil L thanking John Brittan for replacing the leaking tire on the Dragon Boat Trailer before the next outing; and Frances S is happy that David from Brazil has arrived safely and is joining us for the next year as our exchange student.

Fines: Richard only levied one fine this meeting…towards himself…for having to depart early today. Larry L self-imposed a fine for having his wife, Gwen, “forgetting” him at Craigowan last week, leaving Larry behind as he was having a “brief” conversation with others.

Committee Reports
Dictionaries Distribution to Grade 3 Students: More to come from Dr. Reid.

Rotary Roses: More to come From Chris C and Richard H.

Rotary Hams: John C is securing quotes with more information to come.
Membership Blitz: Rick S reviewed that the blitz is to take place in late September or early October and asked fellow Rotarians to look for potential new members to recommend to the membership committee.

Guest Speaker
Frances S introduced our guest speaker, Lindsay Whitaker, General Manager of the YMCA, Woodstock. Rotary members were invited on a tour of the new facilities; a very bright, warm and inviting venue.
