Birthday’s and Anniversaries – Lynne Beath will celebrate 3 years as a Rotarian on November 1st
50/50 Draw – Dave Harris drew the Ace of Hearts for a 10% share of the pot. Total $ to be disclosed later. Note Richard Holmes won $39.00 last week.
Sergeant at Arms: Robin Ferro ceded that all happy bucks would go to Polio Plus today. Dave Harris - Mother came through surgery successfully Barb Wright - Nov 12th - Soupstock is happening at the Quality Hotel in November. This is a fundraiser for DASO. Hazel announced that we raised $43.10 for Polio Plus last week and $44.70 the week prior.
Sick and Visiting - Larry Lake reported that Doug Eckel is at Park Place recovering from hip surgery. He would welcome visitors but call first.
Club News: Francis announced that we did not get a suitable outbound exchange candidate by the deadline so please take some time this week to consider who you know that might be interested. Also we are looking for RYLA Candidates - Age 18-24 to go this coming May. Rotary Roses: Get your $ and tickets in to Ron or Richard Holmes by Wednesday. Hazel reported that we raised $44.70 for Polio last meeting. There is a container packing bee at Norwich public school on November 9th need as many people as we can in 2 shifts 9-12 and 12-3 - signup online.
Meals on Wheels: Fred Fenton is looking for drivers at lunch, the week of November 11-15th.
Speaker:Sheila Perry, Curator of the Woodstock Art Gallery
Sheila has has been at the WAG for just 6 weeks now. What most excited her about coming here was that a relatively small community had made an important investment in this high quality gallery. She feels that art is an integral part of society and should be accessible to all. She highlighted some of the unique features that put our gallery in the top 10% of Canadian galleries when it comes to technical details such as UV protection on the windows, theatre quality lighting and a climate controlled storage vault. These items are creating a demand from artists wanting to display their work here. Like any new facility there are quirks that need to be worked out. Her goals are
1) To increase the linear space available so we can accept more exhibitions and display more of our own art.
2) To develop the third floor and add more classrooms to make the facility able to handle bus loads of school children.
3) Make the facility more attractive for groups to rent by improving multi-purpose space.
4) Improve office space for staff
5) Provide temporary crates for exhibits on loan so they don't mix with our works.
4) improve programming to encourage more users
Upcoming Exhibit - Tom Thomson works will be on display on November 29th.
Usage of the WAG is up 55% from old gallery.
Sheila was thanked by Rotarian Gary Baumbach and the meeting closed at 1:30pm
