A regular meeting of the Woodstock Rotary Club was held on Monday November 5, 2012 commencing at 12:10 p.m. in the Birch Room of the Woodstock Quality Inn.

 1.    Call to Order President Melissa called the meeting to order at 12:10 p.m.

 2.  Invocation  Robin Ferro delivered the invocation.

 

3. Birthdays and Anniversaries

      Graham Hart will celebrate a birthday on November 10th

      Wilma Boughtflower will celebrate a birthday on November 11th

      Chris Martin will celebrate seven (7) years as a club member the week of November 5th.

 4.  Sick and Visiting None

 5.  50/50 Draw Graham Hart conducted the draw. President Melissa drew the winning ticket.

      Winner: Richard Holmes Card Drawn: two (2) of Clubs

6.  Sergeant-at-Arms Robin Ferro acted as Sergeant-at-Arms

     a) Fines: Ted Exley was fined for not having conducted the 50/50 for his pod.

·         In recognition of “Movember”, the member who was most clean-shaven at each table was fined.

·         Anyone who did not participate in Rotary Roses was fined.

     b) Happy Bucks

·         Graham Hart was happy he did not visit New York as he had planned.

·         Adam Shaw was happy to have acted in a movie being filmed at the Woodstock General Hospital.

·         Barbara Wright was happy to remind everyone of the upcoming “Soupstock.”

·         Larry Lake was happy to have sent his wife three (3) dozen Rotary Roses.

·         Bill McLeish was happy that Rotary Roses was a success and that Hazel Powell made two (2) rounds of deliveries.

·         Richard Holmes was also happy with the spectacular job that the club did on Rotary Roses.

·         John Currie was happy that he attended the London Downs Syndrome Annual Dinner and was impressed by a musician who could play seven (7) different musical instruments,

·         Liam McCreery will be happy to stop shaving.

·         Don Fulkerson was happy that he was going to Florida to celebrate his birthday.

 7.  Committee Reports

a)   Dictionaries   Henry Grevers reported that the dictionaries are being delivered this week.           

b)  Rotary Roses Richard Holmes reported that 410 dozen roses were delivered and those who                             received roses were very happy with the exception of one customer who only received eleven (11) roses.

Chris Cunningham sent a message of thanks for the positive experience she had participating in Rotary Roses.

 c)   Scottish Curlers John Currie reported that there are still tickets for the event this weekend in Stratford. Tickets are $50.00.

d)   Rotary Foundation  Robin Ferro reported that there is a training session on November 24th in  Kitchener and it is mandatory that someone in the club attends in order to continue receiving matching funds from Rotary International. The training session will last five (5) hours.

 8.  Certificate Presentation  President Melissa received a certificate issued by Past District Governor Brian Carmichael citing the Club as the #1 supporter of Polio Plus in the zone for the past Rotary year.

 9.  Guest Speaker Vanessa Page introduced Deb Roloson of WDDS (Woodstock & District Developmental Services). Deb has been with WDDS for over Thirty-two (32) years.

         Deb spoke about the upcoming Capital Campaign.

·         Proceeds from the Campaign will be used to fund the Young Street Project and the Downtown Project.

·         Both projects will reflect the commitment of WDDS to help their clients achieve the maximum independence appropriate to their situation.         

10. Exchange Student  David Simonetti updated the Club on the happenings of the past week.

 The volleyball team won again/ David visited Toronto this past weekend and went up the CN Tower/ Frances Stevens informed that Club that David’s planned trip to the UN in New York was cancelled due to Hurricane Sandy.

The meeting adjourned at 1:25 p.m.
